Experience
Lorraine is an accredited Cognitive behavioural therapist and Counsellor who has been with Oxford CBT since 2017. Over the past ten years she has had experience of working internationally in a variety of services providing teenagers, university students, adults and older adults with mental health support. She specialises in classic CBT and schema-focused CBT for both common and complex presentations including work-stress, phobias, social anxiety, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, body dysmorphia, excessive worry, generalised anxiety disorder, health anxiety, PTSD, sleep difficulties, perfectionism, low self-esteem, grief and bereavement, low mood/depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, mood fluctuations, relationship and personality difficulties and managing uncomfortable emotions such as anger, guilt and shame.
Lorraine offers an empathetic, warm and collaborative approach to help clients understand their difficulties and develop strategies to overcome them, ultimately leading to an enhanced sense of wellbeing. She has a particular interest and proficiency in complex presentations using schema-focused CBT which explores early-life experiences and the impact this has on people in the here and now. With this understanding, CBT aims to change long-standing unhelpful patterns of coping and build a more helpful approach to living.
Lorraine is a Registered Member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and a Member of British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP). She is committed to abide by their professional ethical standards and regularly attends to continual professional development so that she maintains up-to-date, best evidence-based practice.
Therapy Offered
Lorraine works with individual adults and young people (aged 16 years and above) offering CBT on a weekly basis.
Depending on individual needs and objectives, clients working with Lorraine typically complete treatment within 8-14 weekly sessions and are offered subsequent booster sessions to maintain long-term benefits.
For more complex presentations, treatment may require schema-focused CBT and up to 20 sessions or more.
